EURO 2024
I decided somewhere near the beginning of the tournament to see if I could do some quick reaction pieces from the games that I watched. I didn’t set myself a restriction as such, I just wanted them to be quick and too retain any ‘mistakes’ that I made when pulling them together. As a self initiated project I was under no restrictions or guidelines so I just went for it!
Jamal Musiala - Germany
A strong Strat from the Germans in their home tournament and a scintillating display from Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala saw him as the first player chosen. I went in with absolutely no plan, I just chose to try and pick colours from the interesting Euro 2024 guidelines (where flags of all competing nations were analysed and the corresponding colours added to the palette).
Lamine Yamal - Spain
Lamine Yamal was the talk of the tournament by the time the game with Croatia came around, after his breakthrough season with Barcelona at just 17 years of age. He didn’t disappoint, with him on one flank and Nico WIlliams on the other, Spain were irresistible and a new star had entered world football.
Jude Bellingham - England
England began the tournament really well… for 30 minutes. Bellingham crashed the box and scored a great header to get England over the line. This was clearly going to be a tournament for the young stars of world football.
Arder Guler- Turkey
Arder Guler was something of an unknown quantity after a quiet first season in Madrid. But he left the tournament with the whole world aware of why Real Madrid were prepared to pay so much to bring him to the Benreabeu. A wonderfully gifted 10 who scored one of the tournaments best goals in the group stage.
Luka Modric - Croatia
It wasn’t all about the kids… the 38 year old former Ballon D’Or winner Luka Modric was still doing his thing, right off the back of becoming Real Madrids record trophy winning player with yet another Champions League title in June. a final swan song from one of the games truly great footballers.
